What it is · who it suits

A few shades lighter, depending on your teeth

Whitening gel breaks down stains inside the enamel. How much lighter teeth get varies from person to person.

  • Yellowing from tea, coffee or smoking.
  • No crowns or large fillings on the front teeth (porcelain and filling material do not change colour).
  • Not pregnant or breastfeeding.

Benefits

Before you decide

  • An exam first

Decay or inflamed gums need treating before whitening.

  • Shade checked before and after

We record your shade on a guide at the first and last visit.

  • Sensitivity can happen

It usually passes in a few days; we explain how to ease it.

Options

In the chair or at home

The two can be combined to keep the result longer.

  • In the chair

One visit of about 90 minutes with a stronger gel, supervised throughout.

  • At home

Trays made for your teeth, worn each evening for one to two weeks.

How it works

Four steps

Timings are typical, not promises; you get a specific schedule after the exam.

  1. Exam and scale

    Usually about 45 minutes.

  2. Recording your starting shade

With a shade guide and photos.

  3. Whitening

About 90 minutes in the chair, or you take your trays home.

  4. Check-up

Usually after one or two weeks, to compare shades and talk about upkeep.

Questions

Before and after treatment

Does whitening damage enamel?

Used at the right strength and for the right time, the gel does not wear enamel away. We examine you first to pick the right method.

Will my teeth be sensitive?

They may be for a few days; a sensitive-teeth toothpaste helps.

What should I avoid afterwards?

Go easy on coffee, tea and dark drinks for the first 48 hours or so.

How long does it last?

It depends on your diet; many people top up with their home trays after a year or two.

Is whitening covered by the warranty?

No. Whitening is not a restoration, so it is outside the warranty policy.
