Crowns and veneers

Porcelain crowns or veneers for chipped, worn, stained or slightly uneven teeth. We tell you exactly how much of the tooth would be reshaped before you decide.

What it is · who it suits

Keeping the tooth, renewing the surface

A crown covers the whole tooth; a veneer is bonded to the front only. Both involve some reshaping, to different degrees.

  • A badly broken or root-filled tooth that needs protecting.
  • Discolouration that whitening does not fix.
  • Small chips or gaps in the front teeth.

Benefits

What to expect

  • Shade chosen with you

We compare shades in daylight before anything is made.

  • Try-in before fitting

You see a trial version in your mouth and comment on the shape.

  • Clear about reshaping

We show on a model how much tooth would be removed.

Options

Crown, veneer or bridge

The choice follows the condition of each tooth, not how many you want done.

  • Crown

For badly broken, heavily worn or root-filled teeth.

  • Veneer

For sound teeth that need a new colour or a small change in shape.

  • Bridge

Replaces a missing tooth by resting on the teeth either side.

Side by side

Crown or veneer?

  • Crown

    Covers: the whole visible tooth.

Suits: large fractures, root-filled or heavily worn teeth.

Reshaping: more, all the way round.

    Time: usually two visits.

  • Veneer

    Covers: the front surface only.

Suits: sound teeth that are stained, slightly chipped or spaced.

Reshaping: less, mostly at the front.

Time: usually two or three visits.

How it works

Four steps, usually two or three visits

Timings are typical, not promises; you get a specific schedule after the exam.

  1. Exam and choosing an option

Usually about 45 minutes, with photos and X-rays.

  2. Preparation and impressions

Usually 60–90 minutes; you leave with temporaries.

  3. Try-in

Checking colour and shape, adjusting where needed.

  4. Final fitting

Bonding, bite adjustment and a follow-up date.

Before and after

Sample cases

The frames below are placeholders. The clinic replaces them with before-and-after photos of real cases whose patients agreed to publication; each case states the situation and the approach, never a promised result.

  • Before-and-after placeholder, not a real case

    A darkened front tooth

Situation: a front tooth darkened after an old injury.

Approach: root canal retreatment, one all-ceramic crown.

  • Before-and-after placeholder, not a real case

    Chips and small gaps

Situation: two chipped, slightly spaced front teeth.

Approach: two porcelain veneers over two visits.

  • Before-and-after placeholder, not a real case

    A broken back tooth

Situation: a root-filled molar, half broken away.

    Approach: a porcelain-fused-to-metal crown.

Your dentist

Who will treat you

  • Dr Ha Bao Ngoc

    Cosmetic dentistry

Handles veneers, front crowns and whitening. Dr Ngoc matches porcelain shades with you in daylight and tells you exactly how much tooth would be reshaped before anything starts. (Dentist, photo and bio are placeholders.)

  • Dr Lam Thu An

    Restorations and implants

Leads the clinic's implant and crown work. At the first visit Dr An goes through the scans with you and sketches where each implant would sit before money comes up, then stays with the case through the last check-up. (Dentist, photo and bio are placeholders.)

Questions

Before and after treatment

How much tooth is removed?

A crown needs reshaping all round; a veneer mostly at the front. We show you on a model first.

How long do they last?

It depends on the material, your bite and how you look after them; we will not promise a fixed number of years.

How do I prepare?

Treat decay and gum problems first. If you want the other teeth whitened, do that first so the porcelain matches.

Any aftercare?

Avoid biting hard objects, wear a night guard if you grind, and come for a check every 6–12 months.

What if a crown chips?

Each type of restoration has a repair-or-redo warranty period. See the warranty policy.
